Context Service: The Transactional Cache and Canonical Schema Engine

Architect Developer Admin Design

Enterprise applications frequently execute complex workflows that require coordinated access to data distributed across multiple objects, services, and systems. Processes such as pricing, eligibility evaluation, product configuration, recommendations, and order processing depend on assembling this data into a consistent view that execution engines can consume efficiently. As transaction sizes and workflow complexity increase, directly coupling services to underlying data models introduces scalability challenges and operational inefficiencies. This session introduces Context Service, a platform capability designed to address this challenge by providing a unified runtime data layer that constructs and manages contextual representations of business data required for process execution.Context Service aggregates data from multiple sources and organizes it into a structured context model, enabling application services to operate on a consistent and optimized representation of the required data rather than interacting directly with underlying storage objects. The session will explore how this architectural approach decouples execution services from physical data models while enabling scalable orchestration of complex business processes. We will examine the internal architecture of Context Service, including how contextual data models are defined, how runtime context instances are constructed, and how multiple execution engines interact with the same contextual representation during process execution. Using Revenue Cloud as a practical example, the session will illustrate how Context Service supports large- scale transactions such as quotes containing thousands of line items and enables efficient execution of pricing and configuration workflows. In addition to the internal architecture, the session will also cover the interfaces, configuration constructs, and integration points exposed to system integrators for extending and consuming Context Service capabilities.Overall, the session aims to provide a deeper understanding of how Context Service functions as a foundational data orchestration layer across platform capabilities and how it enables scalable execution of complex enterprise workflows.
